Academic Strategies

Students in 6th grade at Walters Middle School will cycle through four electives this year:  Academic Strategies, Digital Citizenship, Lifestyle Essentials, and Innovation (not particularly in that order).

For the next 10 weeks, your child will be taking Academic Strategies to help them prepare for a successful school year.  This course will provide students with skills to support success in middle and high school including the following topics:

• time management

• focused note taking

• binder & Google Drive organization

• goal setting and self-monitoring

• reading and writing skills that emphasize critical thinking

• positive citizenship

This course is modeled after AVID instructional strategies and curriculum.
